Bintulu Set To Become The Main Hub For Green Economy Through The Strategic Plan 2024-2030

Bintulu, 14 July - Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) is poised to become the primary driver of the green economy with the implementation of the Strategic Plan 2024-2030 Towards a Low-Carbon Industry Hub in Sarawak.

Premier Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, announced that Bintulu will emerge as the main producer of renewable energy, particularly hydrogen, and will export this energy source to other countries by 2027.

“In the second wave era, BDA has outlined several plans to expand its current territory, and we will include Sebauh as part of BDA’s jurisdiction. These plans will transform Bintulu into a sustainable city in line with the digital era and towards a green economy,” he said during his speech at the 45th Anniversary Dinner of BDA.

Premier Sarawak expressed his delight at the progress made on the construction of the cable-stayed bridge, designed to resemble the iconic San Francisco bridge. He expressed his confidence that the bridge will serve as a notable landmark for Bintulu, connecting Bintulu Proper with the areas being developed in Jepak Jaya.

"This infrastructural development will undoubtedly enhance the overall environment of Bintulu. Presently, we are keen to engage with the community in Jepak to ensure their active participation in this development, particularly in relation to the provision of proper and smart housing in Jepak Jaya," Premier Sarawak added.

Abang Johari emphasized that the development plan for Bintulu, leading up to 2030, also includes the establishment of an Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) system, which will connect Samalaju-Kidurong with Bintulu Proper and extend further to Jepak. This state-of-the-art transportation infrastructure will yield significant benefits for the towns and cities in the Bintulu area.

"This step will attract investors and subsequently create job opportunities in Bintulu. The plans until 2030 will also connect Samalaju to Kidurong, as well as Bintulu Proper and Jepak, through the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) system, providing modern amenities to the city of Bintulu,” he added.

The 45th Anniversary Dinner of BDA also witnessed the presentation of awards to 60 exceptional individuals from various divisions of BDA, ranging from management and professionals to the executive group.

Moreover, Premier Sarawak announced a bonus equivalent to one and a half months salary for the employees of BDA as a token of appreciation for their invaluable contributions and services.

The event was attended by Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Secretary of Sarawak State, Datuk Talib Zulpilip, Member of the State Legislative Assembly (ADUN) for Jepak and Advisor to Jepak Jaya, Datu Muhamad Yakup Kari, Chief Executive Officer of BDA, and Dato Haidar Khan Asghar Khan, Deputy Chairman of BDA. -Sarawakku
